Michele Hlavsa, RN, MPH is the Chief of CDC’s Healthy Swimming Program and the epidemiology activity lead for CryptoNet, a national cryptosporidiosis tracking system based on DNA fingerprinting. She received her Master of Public Health, with a focus on epidemiology, from Emory University and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from The College of New Jersey. Michele’s work has focused on understanding the epidemiology of recreational water–associated illness and injury to minimize risk. She is an author of over 70 peer-reviewed and scientific reports focused on recreational water–associated illness and injury and cryptosporidiosis.
