Ms. Kari Hemund, BS, MA, LGIT, WSIT: Ms. Kari Hemund is the Aquatics Program Specialist for the United States Marine Corps, ensuring the aquatics departments throughout the Corps worldwide are operated consistently and safely. Kari is considered an expert in the field by her colleagues and other professionals. During her 16-year tenure with the Marine Corps Ms. Hemund served as the Aquatics Director for Marine Corps Air Station Iwakuni Japan for five years; then became the Water Safety Director for Marine Corps Base Kaneohe Bay Hawaii for three years; and has been serving in her current roll (HQMC) in Quantico Virginia since 2011. She has overseen the operations of aquatics centers, SCUBA programs and open water areas thought out her career. She received the National Recreation and Park Association’s (NRPA) Excellence in Aquatics Award; and the NRPA John "Pat" Harden Practitioner Award. Kari has been inducted into the American Red Cross Hall of Fame for bravery and the use of ARC still to sustain a life.
