Ernest R. Blatchley III is the Lee A. Rieth Professor in Environmental Engineering at Purdue University with a joint appointment in the Lyles School of Civil Engineering and the Division of Environmental & Ecological Engineering. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, with M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, also in Civil (Environmental) Engineering. Professor Blatchley and his group conduct reseaerch in the general area of Physico/Chemical Processes of Environmental Engineering, with particular emphasis on photochemical processes (engineering applications of UV radiation) and chlorine chemistry. The Blatchley group has been engaged in research related to swimming pool chemistry for roughly 15 years.
