NSPF Honors Top in Field

NSPF Instructors Recognized for Excellence in 2017

Colorado Springs, COLORADO, December 18, 2017 - The National Swimming Pool Foundation® (NSPF®) recently honored the organization’s active Instructors for their extraordinary performance over the past year. Many individuals and three companies received awards for their commitment to excellence in keeping pools safer and open. The recipients were awarded by NSPF representatives at the International Instructor Update Meeting, held just prior to the 14th Annual World Aquatic Health™ Conference in Denver, Colorado. 
 
“It is the efforts of NSPF instructors that allow us to work towards our mission,” began Michelle Kavanaugh, Mission Development Director. “All instructors contribute to the betterment of the industry by educating those that can prevent bad things from happening in public and backyard pools. The instructors honored this year represent those that have excelled in their respective areas.”
 
Two New NSPF Instructor Awards for 2017:
Enduring Instructors are those recognized for delivering the most consecutive years of outstanding instruction. Recipients were Kurt Carmen of Aquatic Council LLC, who has been an active NSPF Instructor for 32 years and has certified 8,889 students. Gilbert Daws of Gil Dawes & Associates, LLC was also awarded for 32 years and 4,173 students certified.

Exceptional NSPF Instructors are those who have demonstrated teaching methods and student support at an exceptional level. Recipients were Rudy Stankowitz of Aquatic Facility Training & Consultants in Florida, Rick Stewart of Pool Training Academy LLC in Colorado, and Wayne Ivusich of Taylor Technologies, Inc. Rick Stewart was also recognized as an Enduring Instructor for 32 consecutive years of instruction.

The following instructors were recognized for being the top in their respective fields:
Most Certified Individuals in their First Year as an Instructor - Katrina Campbell of Pool Operation Management achieved the award, due to her incredible number of 325 students taught. Michael Piciulo of Pool Operator Training and Jeffrey Kopp of Horizon Commercial Pool Supply were also honored in this category.  

 

Most Certified Individuals in their Second Year as an Instructor - Jordan DiGuardi of Pool Operation Management was awarded for certifying 411 students. Brian Goldojarb of HD Supply Facilities Maintenance and John Donovan of NV Pools, Inc. joined Mr. DiGuardi in this category. These three Instructors are building on their history of success as previous top instructors during their first year 2016.

Most Certified Individuals by an Instructor in the Last Year - Timothy Auerhahn of Aquatic Council, LLC was honored in this category with his impressive number of 782 students taught this past year. Auerhahn has been an NSPF Instructor since 2010. Steve Scheuer of Certified Pool Trainers, Inc. and Robert Freligh of Nationwide Aquatic Consulting were also recognized in this category.  

Biggest Supporter of Pool Operator Primer™ - Terry Hommel and Richard Deyo of Ecolab, Inc. trained the most students through online Pool Operator Primer™ in the past year. The two of them certified 190 students through the blended learning. 

Most Students Certified in the Spanish Language in the United States - José Miguel Torres of Paraiso Pools was honored with this award for 221 certified students. Josep Veciana of Dadeland Pools Plus and Freddy Soto of Hines Pool & Spa, Inc. joined him in this category. 

Most Students Certified in the Spanish Language International (Outside of the United States) - Hugo Diaz of Area de Piscina received this award for certification of 93 students in Columbia. Mr. Diaz has been an NSPF Instructor since 2012.  

Most Certified Individuals in French - Jean-Pierre Lajoie of Distributions ASI, Inc. located in Quebec, Canada, certified 95 students. Mr. Lajoie has been an NSPF Instructor since 1997.

Three companies were recognized by NSPF:
Most Certified Individuals by a Company - Leslie’s Poolmart, Inc. was recognized as the company with the most certified individuals for delivering 2,005 certifications in the past year. Pool Operation Management joined Leslie’s Poolmart in this category with 1,683 certified individuals.

Most Certified Individuals by a Company Internationally - Alberta Health Services of Canada received the International Award for certifying 486 students. In 2012, the company began offering CPO® Certification courses across Alberta, Canada, in response to their government’s introduction of new pool standards.  The City of Ottawa also received an award in this category with 239 certified individuals.

Most Students Certified in the Spanish Language by a Company - Asociación de Profesionales de la Piscina (APPAC) of Mexico certified 300 students in Spanish, more than any other company outside the USA. APPAC has been using NSPF educational programs in Mexico since 2011 to continue elevating education in the field.
