James Tanner and Robert Kappel, Siemens Water Technologies

This presentation covers the history of chemical automation and its evolution. It will go into detail of the importance of ORP and PPM control and the options of each in today’s market. We will discuss the new disinfection technologies and how chemical controllers interface with these systems as well related mechanical room equipment. The importance of how a properly run chemistry controller can prevent not only recreational water incidents but also improve air quality in indoor water parks will be discussed. Lastly, new technology is on the horizon, within the next three to four years, to improve the control, quality and ease of use for swimming pools and water parks.

Jim Tanner is Director of Sales of the aquatic division for Stranco/Siemens Water Technologies. His background consists of 17 years of the design and construction of aquatic facilities. His experience has led to a wealth of knowledge and understanding of mechanical rooms and chemical feed and automation.

Jim started his career in the commercial aquatic industry in 1988 with Recreonics Corporation. In 1991, he joined Lincoln Equipment and worked as a regional manager and a Sales Manager. He commissioned many new projects and provided operations training and consultation to customers, as well as troubleshooting issues with filtration and chemical feed systems. In 2001, Jim started his career with Siemens Water Technologies as regional sales manager and is presently the Director of Sales for Aquatics in North America.

Robert Kappel is employed by Siemens Water Technologies as the Regional Sales manager for Aquatic Products – Eastern North America. With over 13 years in the aquatics industry, his background includes a broad range of experience comprised of facilities operation, technical service and sales, management, consulting, large project commissioning and customer training. Robert is an active member of the International Ultraviolet Association, holds an APSP Certified Service Professional designation and is an AFO Instructor. Robert is also the past co-chair of the Wisconsin HFS-172 Health Code Advisory Committee and the current Chairperson of the PPOA Board of Directors.
