This presentation will seek to answer the problems plaguing today’s lifeguards. Pulling from over 300 drowning and near-drowning investigations, as well as the data collected since 2001 regarding underwater victim recognition, Michael Oostman will provide the audience with pragmatic based observations and solutions. Since 1991, Michael Oostman has been involved in aquatic safety consulting with Jeff Ellis & Associates. Through this tenure, Michael has overseen International client development, the lifeguard competition and Walt Disney World training. While consulting for Disney, Michael was responsible for the training of approximately 1500+ lifeguards yearly, as well as other risk management needs. Presently, Michael is responsible for the firm’s accident investigations and litigation support, which involves expert witness work.
